WHAT IS THE BEST DIET FOR DOGS?
The best diet for dogs is raw food because biologically it closely mimics what their ancestors ate in the wild. It provides essential nutrients, enzymes, and proteins that can be lost during the cooking process. This type of diet is believed to be more in line with a dog's natural diet, leading to potential benefits such as healthier skin and coat, improved digestion, and increased energy levels.
At Wellness Dog Co. we follow the B.A.R.F raw feeding model.
B.A.R.F(Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) diet consists of 70% muscle meat, 5% secreting organs, 5% offal, 10% bone, and 10% vegetables, fruits, and seeds. This model was popularised by Australian veterinarian Dr. Ian Billinghurst in the 1990s. The diet is based on the belief that dogs, being direct descendants of the Gray wolf, should consume a diet similar to what their ancestors would have eaten in the wild.
Dogs' digestive systems are similar to those of their wild ancestors. Wolves would have consumed mainly herbivore prey, eating all stomach contents, which included meat, skin, fat, bone, juices, oils, offal, fur, claws, twigs, berries, plants, fish, eggs, birds, feathers, scales, and seaweed.
This diet is believed to be most suitable for dogs as its balanced considering that wolves and canines are opportunistic carnivores and eat a variety of food to retain healthy gut health, strong teeth and gums, optimal digestion and overall health. Its food that their bodies naturally were designed to consume.
